Photogravure: Photographs in InkSaturday, July 14, 2001Sunday, November 11, 2001 Photogravure is the most lavish process by which photographs are printed in printer's ink. Invented in the 19th century, photogravure has been used by creative photographer-printmakers interested in the rich, continuous tones of this intaglio process. Photographers who have used this process include P. H. Emerson, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward S. Curtis, Paul Strand, Lee Friedlander, and Bernice Ficek-Swenson. This exhibition features about 75 photogravures, all from the Institute's permanent collection. |
